Shees Park is best categorized as an urban nature and heritage park. While it offers modern infrastructure like paved walkways, viewing decks, and play areas, it preserves the natural mountain setting and honors the traditional character of the nearby Shis village. It’s not a botanical garden or wildlife sanctuary, nor does it have amusement rides — its charm lies in natural landscapes, cultural simplicity, and family-friendly design.
🌿 What Makes Shees Park Special?
Shees Park is not just another green space — it’s a beautifully designed urban nature park that blends Sharjah’s mountainous charm with modern leisure amenities. What makes this park truly special is its location and transformation story. Built in just eight months, Shees Park sits near the historic village of Shis, at the foothills of Khor Fakkan’s rugged Hajar Mountains. This setting gives visitors a rare mix of natural beauty and recreational comfort — you can walk along stone pathways, cross wooden bridges, or climb terraced trails while soaking in panoramic mountain views.
The park was designed with a theme of community, family, and nature connection. Unlike amusement parks or wildlife reserves, Shees Park focuses on simple joys: family picnics under palm trees, kids laughing on swings, or friends gathering around the dedicated barbecue grills. The vibe is peaceful yet lively, perfect for those wanting a quick escape from city life without venturing too far.

🌟 Visitor Tips for Shees Park
To help you get the most out of your visit to Shees Park, here are some practical, experience-based tips:
🕰 1. Arrive Early, Especially on Weekends
Shees Park fills up fast on Fridays, public holidays, and winter weekends. To secure a barbecue or picnic spot, aim to arrive before 10:00 AM. For sunset walks and cooler weather, come after 5:00 PM — but expect busier parking.
🍱 2. Bring Your Own BBQ Setup
While the park provides free-to-use barbecue grills, you must bring your own charcoal, lighter, grilling tools, and food. Also, pack disposable plates, cutlery, and picnic mats for a smooth outdoor meal.
👟 3. Wear Proper Shoes
The stone stairways and trails require sturdy footwear. Sneakers or sports shoes are best; sandals or flip-flops can be slippery, especially near the waterfall and upper terraces.
☀️ 4. Prepare for Weather
In summer, the midday sun can be intense; bring sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water. In winter, evenings can get cool, especially in the mountains — carry a light jacket.
🧒 5. Watch Children Near Trails
The park has age-specific playgrounds, but children must be supervised, particularly on the walking paths, stairs, and near water features. There are no lifeguards or attendants.
🛑 6. Respect Cultural Norms
On Fridays (family day) and public holidays, local families gather in large numbers. Dress modestly, avoid loud music, and remember: no alcohol or smoking is allowed inside the park.
🏞 7. Combine with Other Attractions
If you’re planning a longer UAE nature itinerary, consider combining Shees Park with other top spots like Al Rafisah Dam or Khorfakkan Amphitheatre. For wildlife enthusiasts, Dubai Safari Park is another must-see — it’s one of the UAE’s premier eco-tourism destinations, home to over 3,000 animals in expansive, naturalistic habitats.
🚘 8. Fill Up on Fuel Before Heading In
There’s no gas station in Shees village or inside the park. Make sure to refuel in Khorfakkan or along Khorfakkan Road before ascending the mountain.
📸 9. Bring a Camera (and Drone if Approved)
Shees Park offers fantastic photo ops — especially at sunset from the upper terraces. Drones can capture spectacular mountain views, but you must get pre-approval from Sharjah Municipality.
🗑 10. Keep It Clean
Help preserve the park’s beauty by using trash bins and leaving no litter behind. This keeps the space enjoyable for everyone and protects the local ecosystem.
🌟 Customer Reviews of Shees Park
Here’s what real visitors have to say about their experiences at Shees Park — highlighting both the memorable moments and small suggestions for improvement.
🧕 Fatima Al Zarooni, School Teacher, Sharjah
“We visited Shees Park last weekend with our three kids (ages 4, 7, and 10). The playgrounds were perfectly divided by age, which made it so much easier for us to let each child play safely. The barbecue area was clean and beautifully shaded, and we loved the mountain views from the upper terrace. However, I do wish they had more water dispensers, especially near the playgrounds, as we had to walk back down to refill bottles. Still, overall, it was one of the most affordable and enjoyable family days we’ve had in a while!”
👨💼 Ahmed Khan, IT Consultant, Dubai
“I drove with friends from Dubai to Shees Park after hearing about it on Instagram. The park’s location is breathtaking — surrounded by mountains, and the walking trail was just the right length for a casual afternoon hike. We especially enjoyed the viewing deck at the top. The only downside was the limited parking; we arrived at 11:30 AM on a Friday and had to wait almost 25 minutes to find a spot. My advice: arrive early! Other than that, it’s an excellent, well-maintained escape from the city.”
👩👧 Lina Gomez, Travel Blogger, Abu Dhabi
“As someone exploring offbeat UAE locations, I was impressed with Shees Park’s layout. We went as a family group — grandparents, parents, kids — and everyone found something to enjoy. The grandparents loved relaxing near the waterfall, the kids were crazy about the adventure playground, and we all shared a picnic under the shaded pergolas. The restrooms were very clean, which is often rare in outdoor spots. The only thing missing for us was a proper café or restaurant with more food options; the small kiosk had limited snacks. But for a free-entry park, it really delivers.”
👨👩👧 Mohammed Al Mansoori, Civil Engineer, Fujairah
“Living nearby, I’ve visited Shees Park multiple times. I love that it’s family-focused, clean, and has beautiful green spaces despite being in a mountain setting. Last Eid, we joined the celebrations there — face painting and local dance shows were a hit with my kids! One improvement I’d like to see is better signage in English; some of the event announcements and park signs are only in Arabic, which makes it tricky for non-Arabic speakers. Overall, though, it’s become one of our favorite weekend spots.”
🧳 Jessica Chen, Tourist from Singapore
“We discovered Shees Park during a road trip from Dubai to Khorfakkan. What a gem! The combination of natural scenery, waterfall, and well-maintained trails blew us away. We spent about three hours walking, taking photos, and relaxing. My only suggestion would be adding a small shuttle or golf cart service for elderly visitors, as some of the stairs are quite steep. But honestly, for something that’s free and so well-designed, it’s hard to beat.”
